These days, the Luc Nam River section which passes through Luc Ngan district has seen low water levels, offering good conditions for workers to speed up the construction of Chu Bridge on the extended Provincial Road 289. Along the two banks of the river, abutments and pillars have been built, and a large, wide and curving bridge is being shaped.

Nguyen Huu Nguyen, a representative of the construction contractor, Tan Thinh Construction Co., Ltd, said that the unit has mobilized the maximum manpower to accelerate the progress. "Under the contract, the project has a construction period of 16 months, but we are determined to shorten the time and complete it about 3 months ahead of schedule," Nguyen said.

The Chu Bridge construction project on the extended Provincial Road 289 in Luc Ngan district includes a bridge and a path leading to the bridge with a total length of more than 937 m passing through Nam Duong and Tru Huu communes, about 500 m downstream from the current Chu Bridge. The new bridge will be made of reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete, with its 16m-wide surface. Total investment is about 180 billion VND (7,840 USD) sourced from the provincial budget.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Luc Ngan district Truong Van Nam said the construction of the new Chu Bridge aims to complete the road transport network, connect the extended Provincial Road 289 with National Road 31, Khuon Than eco-tourism area and Chu township's ring road, as well as promote the efficiency of investment in transport projects which have been implemented.

Currently, the junctions with the Hanoi - Bac Giang Expressway, especially on National Road 37 (in Bac Giang city and Yen Dung district) and National Road 17 (in Viet Yen district), which are directly related to the industrial zones of Quang Chau, Dinh Tram, Van Trung, Song Khe - Noi Hoang, are congestion hotspots, affecting tens of thousands of workers and businesses.

To remove the "bottlenecks" and open up a new development space, the intersection with National Road 37 at Dinh Tram is under construction, with eight branches. The National Road 17 intersection in Song Khe - Noi Hoang area is designed to have four branches. The branch roads have a foundation of 8m, a surface of 7 m and an edge of 1 m. Two-way sections have a foundation of 16 m wide and a surface of 15 m, with asphalt concrete structure on macadam foundation.

Bui Van An, Deputy Project Director of Tan Phat Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company – the construction contractor, said that to date, the branch roads have had their surfaces of the lower asphalt concrete layers completed, fulfilling about 70 percent of the workload.

Director of the provincial Department of Transport Bui The Son said that priority should be given to developing transport infrastructure as a premise and driving force for the realisation of socio-economic growth goals. In the coming time, the sector will continue to advise the provincial leaders to direct the implementation of works and projects connecting the transport networks in the province and the region, especially in areas that serve as key growth drivers. It will focus on building a transport network development plan in the province in the 2021 – 2030 period with a vision to 2050.
