(BGO) - The Covid-19 epidemic has been basically controlled in Bac Giang. The province is focusing on implementing measures to recover its economy, including trade and services.

Co.opmart Bac Giang supermarket has an abundant supply of goods to meet the needs of consumers.

Vu Tri Hoc, deputy head of the district Economic-Infrastructure Division, a member of the working group to support and guide production and business activities in the new situation, said: “There are more than 1,000 individual business households and nearly 20 production, business, trade and service enterprises in the district. We have guided communes and townships to implement regulations on resuming production and business activities; and at the same time inspected and supervised the implementation”.

Similarly, in Bac Giang city and Tan Yen district, in addition to essential goods stores, the retail market has gradually regained its recovery momentum but has not been as vibrant as before.

Surveys at many restaurants as well as entertainment, cosmetology, transportation businesses showed that the operating capacity there decreased sharply. For example, Hung Thinh Tourism Co., Ltd in Thang township (Hiep Hoa district) has just run more than 30 buses to pick up workers. The remaining vehicles are lying still because there are not many customers. A representative of the Bac Giang Bus Joint Stock Company said that businesses have gradually put the buses into operation again, but the initial number of vehicles is only about 50 percent.

Maintaining epidemic prevention measures

Competent agencies assessed that trade and services were strongly affected by the epidemic, but in the first six months of the year, most industries saw growth. For example, wholesale and retail, and repair of cars and motorbikes increased by 7.1 percent; transportation and warehousing, up 2.56 percent. The production value of the whole sector rose by 6.4 percent over the same period last year. However, the total value (current price) is estimated at 20.62 trillion VND (893.7 million USD), reaching only 48 percent of the plan.

In the first six months of this year, all service industries enjoyed growth. For example, wholesale and retail, and repair of cars, motorcycles and motorbikes increased by 7.1 percent; transportation and warehousing, up 2.56 percent. The production value of the whole sector rose by 6.4 percent over the same period last year.

On the basis of assessing the real pandemic situation, in order to ensure the "dual goals" of both disease prevention and control, and economic development, the working group to help restore industrial production and trade activities, set up by the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, has implemented many measures.

Accordingly, trading enterprises, supermarkets, trade centers, and convenience store chains in the province increased their stockpiles by 20-30 percent compared to April 2021, especially essential goods such as rice, cooking oil, cattle and poultry meat, eggs and processed food.

Trade centers take measures to prevent and control the Covid-19 for employees and customers. Bac Giang Co.opmart supermarket is implementing sales and promotion programmes in July, applied on many household items and food. It also offers sanitizers and measures temperature of customers before entering. Cashier counters are equipped with shields to limit direct contacts and ensure epidemic prevention and control.

Pham Cong Toan, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, head of the working group, said that the working group continues to direct its teams to grasp the situation and review difficulties faced by organizations and individuals in the process of operation to have timely solutions. There is still Covid-19 transmission risks, so business and commercial service establishments should always consider plans for safe recovery and sustainable operation.
