Building bridge for women’s startups

(BGO)-With various methods such as supporting the members access to incentive loans and joining hands with enterprises to promote the products, the Women’s Union at all levels in the northern province of Bac Giang has helped many women to enhance their capacity, creativity and build successful economic development models.

Striving to get rich

Thanks to introduction of the women’s union of Quynh Son commune, Yen Dung district, we met Ha Thi Loc in Voi village, Quynh Son commune, a typical of the women’s startup movement in the locality.

“I used to be a worker at a garment company and then I changed to manufacture electric components at home. After a period of learning and gaining experience, I decided to establish LT Vina Electronic Manufacturing and Trading Company Limited in late 2018”, said Loc.

On facing difficulties, she was supported with an incentive loan of 50 million VND (2,197 USD) from the women’s union and lent 1 billion VND (43,946 USD) from the banks for startup.

To date, Loc’s company has created jobs for 50 local labourers with average income from 6 to 7 million VND (263.7 to 307.6 USD) per month. Apart from the 50 official employees, hundreds of seasonal workers in the commune agree to process some stages of the products at home.

Nguyen Thi Nhu in Tu residential group, Bich Dong township, Viet Yen district chose the different way to start up. The “High-quality crop cultivation” model was highly evaluated by the Organizing Board of the 2021 National Women’s Startup Competition and awarded the Promising Prize.

In 2018, thanks to support of the women’s unions, competent agencies and local government, she decided to build the net house system with 50 million VND (2,197 USD) of the incentive loan from the women’s union. She has established Nhu Hoa High-tech Agricultural, Trade and Service Cooperative and collaborated with the women’s unions and competent agencies to finalize the criteria for establishment of OCOP products. Nhu harvests 3 melon crops each year and gains a profit from 200 to 300 million VND (8,789 USD to 13,184 USD) after deducting the expenses.

Thanks to their determination in line with support from the local women’s unions, several women in the province have gained success in startups to enrich their family and the society.

Providing support with various methods

According to Nguy Thi Tuyen, Chairwoman the provincial Women’s Union (PWU), the PWU has directed its affiliates to take initiative in advising the local party committee and government to implement some solutions such as providing vocational training and training in human resource management, finance and business law and policies to the women.

Women’s unions at all levels were required to review and make lists of women with startup initiatives and organized supporting activities matching with the members’ demands. In early this year, the women’s unions at all levels made the lists of members in need of consultancy for accessing to incentive loan resources.

Besides, the women’s unions held meetings to grasp difficulties facing women in startup to introduce and invite experts for timely consultancy. They also collaborated with some related agencies to support women in legal document and procedures for establishment of businesses and cooperatives.

According to a report by PWU, more than 1,300 women have been supported over the past 5 years for successful business and startups. In coming time, the women’s unions at all levels will continue join hands with related agencies and banks to mobilize resources to support women’s startups and economic development. In addition, they will regularly check and supervise implementation of the laws and policies relating support for startups and business development including support for businesses owned by women.
