Bac Giang: Pig-raising billionaire voted Excellent Vietnamese Farmer 2021

(BGO) - Excellent Vietnamese Farmer 2021 Hoang Dinh Que in Quynh Son village, Quynh Son commune, Yen Dung district, Bac Giang province has developed a circular breeding model that combines pig farming and taking pig manure to raise earthworms for food for chickens, ducks and tortoises. Therefore, Que raised pigs without worrying about diseases, and won big.

Having traded pork for more than 10 years, Que "became predestined" with pig farming in a rather unexpected situation. That was the time when pigs raised by local farmers were infected with diseases, so they were sold-off. Due to underdeveloped science and technology, sick pigs were often thrown away or sold at a very cheap price.

“When pigs were infected with diseases, they were sold-off. I and my wife thought that if the pigs could not be treated with medicine, we would not inject them. I cleaned the environment to create a cool place for the pigs. The best record I bought a pig for 50,000 VND (over 2 USD), after selling, I earned a mace of gold,” said Que.

Realizing the opportunity, in 2008, he and his wife began to invest in pig breeding. From a few dozens at first, he gradually increased his herd to a few hundreds. Currently, he is raising pigs for CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, about 2,000 pigs per litter. After deducting expenses, he earns about 1 billion VND (43,800 USD) a year.

According to Que, in animal husbandry, the handling of environmental pollution and weight gain of pigs are very important. Breeders always pay much attention to environmental impacts.

Thanks to bio-safety breeding and the collection of all waste to raise earthworms for food for chickens, ducks and tortoises, even though the barns are closed, they are airy, with little stench.

Que said currently, in Bac Giang province, there are over 1,000 livestock and poultry farms, discharging a large volume of daily waste, affecting the environment, causing epidemics and harming human health. The farms mainly build biogas plants for fuel, sowaste treatment is not good and economic efficiency is low.

Since 2017, his family has spent 200 square meters on earthworm farming, with 3,000 kg of breeding worm biomass per litter. With four litters a year, his family collects 12,000 kg of food for ducks, chickens, fish and tortoises, contributing to reducing expenses for feed and work days.

"Every year, after deducting the initial expenses, my family earns from 400-500 million VND from the earthworm farming model," Que said.

Thanks to bio-safety farming and waste treatment with earthworms, the farm has never seen an outbreak of diseases, including African swine fever. Seeing its efficiency, many delegations have visited and studied the model, which is now expanded to more than 20 livestock farms in Bac Giang province.

According to La Van Doan, Standing Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Union of Bac Giang province, the pig raising model, combined with waste treatment with earthworms to create food for ducks, chickens and tortoises, is a new circular breeding model with high economic efficiency. "Farmer Hoang Dinh Que participated in the 9th Bac Giang farmer technical innovation contest and won the 3rd prize at the provincial level," he said.

With the circular animal farming model, Excellent Vietnamese Farmer 2021 Hoang Dinh Que in Quynh Son village, Quynh Son commune, Yen Dung district, Bac Giang province not only thoroughly solves the problem of environmental pollution in animal breeding but also make animals healthy and free from diseases, bringing in high economic efficiency to the family. Each year, his family earns 1.5-2 billion VND (65,770-87,700 USD) from livestock farming, creating stable jobs for 8-10 workers with an average salary of 5-8 million VND per person per month.
