Goods export runs smoothly at Lao Cai Border Gate

The export of goods to China through the Lao Cai International Border Gate has been running smoothly since the beginning of the Lunar New Year, according to customs officials.

Since the clearance of a 350-tonne shipment of fruits at the Lao Cai Border Gate on the first day of the Lunar New Year, the number of vehicles and amount of goods, mainly fruits and other agricultural produce, have been rising strongly.

Specifically, during the January 20-30 period, more than 8,300 tonnes of agricultural goods worth 3.7 million USD, including dragon fruit, jackfruit, watermelon, mango, rambutan, banana and cassava, have been exported to China.

The majority of goods were cleared within the day of their arrival, said Nguyen The Hung, Deputy Head of the Lao Cai Border Gate Customs Department.

At the Kim Thanh Border Gate, about 84 vehicles export and 129 vehicles import each day. Imports are mainly fruits and other agricultural goods, while imports are vegetables, fruits and consumer goods.

At the Lao Cai International Railway Station, since the first day of the Lunar New Year, there have been 31 export trains and 31 import trains, with goods mainly including input materials, chemicals and industrial equipment.

Currently, truck drivers and people entering China are only required to present negative Covid-19 RT-PCR tests within 48 hours and fill in a health declaration form issued by China’s customs.

According to the management board of the Lao Cai Economic Zone, during the January 20-30 period, the total export-import value was estimated at nearly 57 million USD, of which exports accounted for 35.2 million USD.

During the Lunar New Year holiday, there was a flurry of immigration activity, with over 36,000 people cleared for entry and exit at the border gates in Lao Cai.
