(BGO) – Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Giang province Le Anh Duong on February 7 chaired a working session with Vietnam Railways (VNR) on putting into operation the Kep international railway station in Lang Giang district.
Kep is a second-tier station as part the Yen Vien (Hanoi) - Dong Dang (Lang Son) railway line. It is the starting point of Kep - Ha Long - Cai Lan and Kep - Luu Xa rail routes. The station has nine tracks.

On January 19, 2023, the Ministry of Transport issued a decision allowing Kep station to temporarily serve international intermodal services. VNR has informed this decision to railway cooperation organizations, railway companies of countries and partners.
On February 1, 2023, VNR worked with the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the Bac Ninh Customs Department, and Vietnam Railway Authority on the mission. The parties agreed that Kep station is basically eligible for international intermodal operations, expected to open on February 20, 2023.

In the first phase, there will be 1.5-2 pairs of international intermodal trains per day on average on the Kep - Dong Dang – Pingxiang route. Meanwhile, the North-South route fleet will be cut down to one pair per day. The station’s average daily loading and unloading capacity is estimated at 80-100 wagons per container. Goods to be transported include electronic and industrial products, construction materials, industrial wood and raw ore.

In the second phase, a bonded warehouse will be built to serve import and export activities of enterprises in Bac Giang, Bac Ninh and neighboring provinces. It is to house refrigerated containers transported from the South for customs procedures before being exported to China by rail. This phase is expected to see 2-2.5 pairs of trains per day.
