Nearly 3,900 hectares of forest granted with FSC certificate

(BGO) – GFA Organization has granted Forest Stewardship Council certificate (FSC certificate) to more than 3,400 hectares of planted forest and about 450 hectares of natural forest which is valid within 5 years ( 2023 – 2028) in Bac Giang province.

These forest areas belong to the management of 65 groups of households with more than 2,900 owners in the communes of Canh Nau, Dong Tien, Dong Vuong, Tam Tien, Tien Thanh and Xuan Luong (Yen The district). Huarong Industry Company Limited (Huarong) acts as representative.

All by-products after exploitation and processing such as firewood, tree branches, wood bark, sawdust… from FSC forest are purchased by Huarong Industry Co., Ltd. to produce wood pellet for export.

To have raw materials for wood pellet production to export to Japanese market, since 2022, Huarong has funded expense to make proposal for the FSC certificate as well as maintain the assessment of the above forest area in the upcoming years. At the same time, the company committed to purchasing some by-products after exploitation.

According to the Project “Supporting the issuance of sustainable forest certification in Bac Giang province in 2020-2030 period”, the province strives to grant the FSC certificate to 17,000 hectares of planted forests by 2030. Up to now, more than 13,000 hectares of forest have been recognized with FSC, accounting for over 14 percent of the planted forest area.

Forests cover a third of the continent, providing essential services and making an important contribution to sustaining life on the planet. Currently, the livelihoods of more than 1.6 billion people on earth, depend on forests.
