Luc Ngan actively seeks “output” for lychee

(BGO) – The complicated development of Covid-19 pandemic has made the owners of lychee orchards in Luc Ngan district (Bac Giang province) really concerned for the upcoming season. Amid the current situation, the local authority joins hands with competent agencies and consuming enterprises to work out specific solutions to ease the consumption and help the farmers comfortably care for the special fruits.    

Anxiously caring for the lychee

Luc Ngan is home to nearly 15,300 hectares of lychee of which 218 hectares and 50 hectares were granted the production area code for export to the US and Japan respectively.

The preliminary processing line for the fresh lychee under Israeli Juran Technology has been installed by Global Food Export and Import Joint Stock Company at Kim town, Phuong Son commune.

Recently, the district has coordinated with the Plant Protection Department to issue 15 additional production area codes to 84 households with total area of 77 hectares in the communes of Hong Giang, Quy Son, Giap Son, Tan Son and Ho Dap.

Via actual inspection, some areas had low flowering rate so the district collaborated with the competent agencies to review and add new area codes at Bac Hai village in Quy Son commune and Lam village in Nam Duong commune with total area of 18 hectares to focus on caring the lychee to ensure the export standard to Japan.

Taking us to the lychee growing area selected to export to Japan in Ho Lec valley, Lam village, the Agriculture Encouragement Staff in Nam Duong commune Than Van Thi said the selected area covers nearly 11 hectares with 12 participating households.

This is the first year Lam village in particular and Nam Duong commune in general has been selected as the lychee area to export to Japan, thus the villagers are really happy.

The majority of lychee output in Luc Ngan district is exported to China. According to Chairman of Giap Son communal People’s Committee Vi Van Tu, the commune has nearly 1,000 hectares of lychee that yielded over 6,000 tonnes of fruits in 2019.

This year, the lychee grown in 20 hectares of Giap Son commune are expected to be sent to Japanese market (with estimated productivity of over 200 tonnes) while the remaining quantity will be consumed in other markets.

Handling the growers’ difficulties

Amid the situation, the district People’s Committee has instructed the competent agencies to help the growers care for the orchards to gain high productivity while coordinating with the provincial authority, organizations, agencies and enterprises to seek new consumption market.

Facing to the Covid-19 complicated development, Head of the Economy – Infrastructure Division in Luc Ngan Nguyen Van Hai said the Division consulted the district People’s Committee to build 3 scenarios namely pandemic elimination, reduction and development.

Besides, the district People’s Committee continues coordinating with the relevant departments and sectors to plan the trade promotion for lychee consumption at the domestic markets via various systems of super markets, retail stores, distributors, whole sale markets at big cities, especially the Southern provinces while luring the enterprises specialized at fruit processing and canned juice to Luc Ngan to process the lychee.

Now, Global Food Export and Import Joint Stock Company (Luc Ngan district) completed the installation of fresh lychee preliminary processing system under Israeli Juran technology which is a modern line with close design of processing – sterilization – preservation – package to meet the demand of processing 300 – 400 tonnes of fresh lychees to export to Japan in this crop.

Several businesses like Chanh Thu Fruit Export and Import Company Limited (Ben Tre province) amd AMEII Vietnam Joint Stock Company promised to buy all the lychees that meet the food safety and hygiene of Japanese regulation.

Thanks to the coordination among the agricultural sectors, authority, business and farmers, it is expected that the consumption of Bac Giang’s lychee will not be much impacted by Covid-19 pandemic.
