In Bac Giang, DoIT Director Tran Quang Tan briefed on the potentials and strengths of lychee and other key farm products of Bac Giang province.

According to Tan, Bac Giang lychee has become a well-known trademark nationwide and internationally. Lychee output this year is expected at 160,000 tonnes, accounting for majority proportion of Vietnamese lychee.

Of which, lychee growing area under VietGAP standards is 15,000 hectares and 218 hectares follow GlobalGAP issued with IRADS (Irradiation Reporting and Accountability Database) code by the US. Besides, the Japanese competent agency approved 19 production unit codes (PUCs) while China approved 149 PUCs and 288 packaging units, which can satisfy conditions and volumes to export to Singapore.

Bac Giang lychee is protected in 10 countries and exported to some countries including China, the US, EU, Republic of Korea, Australia, Malaysia, Middle East and Thailand. The product is highly evaluated in quality, food safety and traceability by consumers.

Currently, the gardeners are harvesting early ripen lychee which is in convenient consumption with high price ranging from 30,000 to 35,000 VND (1.3 to 1.5 USD) per kilo.

Tran Quang Tan added, Bac Giang province is committed to simplifying administrative procedures to facilitate enterprises and traders purchasing and consuming lychee in the province especially the procedures relating foreign enterprises and traders while avoiding administrative incidents affecting consumption of lychee.

Singapore is importing lychee form Thailand and Taiwan (China) but the product quality is not as good as Vietnamese lychee, especially Bac Giang lychee. In fact, although Singaporean consumers really like Vietnamese lychee because of its delicious taste, this country mainly imports the product from Chinese traders while the direct import volumes from Vietnam is limited.

Thus, bringing Bac Giang lychee to Singaporean market is significant to open new paths for exporting other key farm products of the province.
