(BGO) – On March 1, Chairman of Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee (PPC) Le Anh Duong received leaders and representatives of Japanese businesses, including Kawamoto, CEO of Kawamoto Group, Bui Huy Khuong, Import-Export Director of Ribeto Group and Hoang Manh Quynh, Manager of Kyodai Group in Vietnam to discuss about exporting lychee to Japan.
In 2021, the province yielded over 215,800 tonnes of fresh lychee, up 50,000 tonnes year on year. 126,552 tonnes of fruits were sold domestically and 89,300 tonnes exported to China (84,768 tonnes), Japan (204 tonnes), EU, the US and Australia (70 tonnes) among others.

This year, the PPC directed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to issue lychee production plan in associated with product export. Particularly, the province developed 28,300 ha of lychee with estimated productivity of about 160,000 tonnes, including 15,400 ha grown under VietGAP standard (output of 112,900 tonnes); 82 ha of GlobalGAP lychee. The province strives to grant 20 ha more of GlobalGAP cultivation to raise the total area up to 102 ha with expected quantity of 1,000 tonnes of fruits.
Opening the event, PPC Chairman welcomed leaders and representatives of Japanese enterprises to visit and survey at provincial lychee growing areas. He pressed on comparatively developed agriculture production in the province with more and more exported products. Bac Giang was open for all companies to visit and seek cooperative opportunities in local farm produce export.

Kawamoto thanked the provincial leaders for facilitating their visit to lychee growing area for export. After actual survey, he acknowledged about the clean and friendly production environment. Last year, he piloted to bring Bac Giang lychee to Japan and received positive feedback from local customers.
However, some products were not good looking due to fungus. There is open way for export this fruit to Japan if this issue can be solved. He hoped that Bac Giang lychee can be present at Japan in this May and June.
After listening to the opinion, PPC Chairman Le Anh Duong affirmed that Bac Giang is qualified to export lychee to Japanese market for the localities with lychee growing area codes and steaming for sterilization facilities among others.

The provincial leader expected the groups to link to Toan Cau Food Import Export Joint Stock Company to introduce local lychee to Japan; EBISU export business community to support and introduce companies with new technology in lychee preservation to better meet the export standard.
The PPC Chairman also suggested to pilot two methods of transportation by sea and air to export both Tan Yen early ripening and Luc Ngan main season lychees while diversifying the forms of facilitation and promotion of lychee export.
