Lychee sale focuses on both domestic and export markets

(BGO) - The lychee season is coming soon, with expected bumper harvest and high quality. Now, conditions for welcoming the sweet fruit season have been prepared by Bac Giang province with the desire to help growers enjoy bumper crop and good prices.

Maintaining quality, brand

Ngo Van Cuong's household in Quat Du 2 village, Phuc Hoa commune (Tan Yen district) has grown lychees following GlobalGAP process for the third crop. He was also assigned to be the leader of a planting area code, guiding and supervising the care process of the households in the group. This year, the planting area code managed by Cuong continued to be selected for export to the Japanese market with an area of 5 hectares.

Phuc Hoa commune has the largest early-ripening lychee area in Tan Yen district with more than 400 hectares. The lychee quality here has been confirmed for many years. In addition to the area planted under GlobalGAP process, most lychee areas are cared for according to VietGAP standard.

With a relatively large lychee production, besides regularly advising people to take care of products to ensure food safety and hygiene, the locality has also paid attention to preparing materials and conditions for the lychee harvest season.

In Luc Ngan district, with an area of more than 15,700 hectares of lychee (an increase of 300 hectares compared to 2021), the output is estimated at nearly 96,000 tonnes. Right from the beginning of the crop, the district authorities and people have always paid heed to maintaining the quality and brand name of the lychee area.

Diversifying ways of selling lychees

The lychee selling plans have been renovated to adapt to the new situation. In 2021, the province's lychee crop took place when Bac Giang was the center of the Covid-19 epidemic in the country.

However, thanks to flexible and creative solutions, Bac Giang still had a successful lychee season as it not only successfully exported lychees to foreign markets but also fully tapped the domestic market.

According to Nguyen Van Phuong, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, learning from previous lychee seasons, especially last year's, this year, Bac Giang's trade promotion has had many improvements, notably combining online and in-person activities. This helps enhance connectivity and open up more opportunities to bring the product into different regions and areas.

On the basis of market segmentation, the province has worked with Vietnamese counselors overseas and coordinated with airlines to promote and sell lychees in high-end markets. Localities with large lychee production have actively worked with border gate management units, enterprises, wholesale markets, e-commerce floors, and supermarkets to bring Bac Giang lychees to everywhere.

Luc Ngan district has cooperated with the Department of Industry and Trade to send many survey teams to the border gates of Lao Cai, Lang Son and Quang Ninh provinces; proposed to include lychee in the meals of workers in major industrial zones in the North and distribute the product to workers of large corporations. It has also sent market survey delegations to the southern and western wholesale markets...

The district has also reviewed and made a list of foreign traders wishing to purchase lychees, and proposed the competent authorities to allow them to enter Vietnam. Luc Ngan devised plans and implemented measures to manage, supervise and ensure safety for foreign traders in line with regulations. By May 3, nearly 70 Chinese traders had registered to enter Bac Giang to purchase lychees.

Along with the above solutions, Luc Ngan, Luc Nam, Tan Yen, Yen The and Lang Giang districts have strictly managed the growing area codes and packing facilities, preventing acts of commercial fraud. With synchronous measures, Bac Giang hopes to continue to enjoy a bumper lychee crop with good prices.
