(BGO) – The Luc Ngan district People’s Committee on August 17 held a meeting to review 2022 lychee production and consumption and orient the task in 2023.
In 2022, the district grew nearly 17,400 hectares of lychee (up over 1,900 hectares against 2021), including nearly 13,000 hectares of lychee grown under VietGAP procedure. Though the prolonged cold weather caused impacts on the crop development, it was the second consecutive year the district had earned high productivity of over 126,600 tonnes.

Amid the affect of Covid-19 pandemic especially Chinese’s “Zero Covid” policy and strict measures against the disease, thanks to drastic and specific instruction from the provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee together with support from the departments and sectors, Luc Ngan district actively launched trade promotion events to link the supply and demand and expand the market.
Thus, the local special fruit was consumed smoothly with total production value of over 3.8 trillion VND (162.3 million USD), down 410 billion VND comparing to last year revenue, including over 1,250 billion VND from export.

Some representatives stated new features of this year lychee season like orchard tourism promotion, acceleratated communication and lychee promotion which drew more attention from the press agencies nationwide to create sufficient information and assist farmers, traders and businesses to consume the fruit.
On behalf of local Party and State, Chairman of the district People’s Committee La Van Nam thanked the due attention form the Party, State, Government, Central departments, ministries and sectors as well as drastic instruction from provincial Party and authorities in lychee promotion and consumption.
To continue winning more success in upcoming season, he ordered the competent agencies to cooperate with provincial departments and sectors to deliver and apply advanced science and technology into cultivating, caring, havesting and preserving lychees toward increased productivity and quality.

The district functional agencies should pay attention to directing and guiding the production right from this moment, ensure strict implementation of regulation about caring and using plant protection product at the region with growing area codes, cooperate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to well control over the fertilizer quality.
On the occasion, the district People’s Committee honored and rewarded 18 collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in supporting people to produce, harvest, process and consume lychees in 2022 season.
