(BGO) - The Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang on April 26 organized a teleconference to promote trade connection and consumption of lychee and other potential products of the province in the US market. The event was connected to dozens of locations at home and abroad, including 12 in the US. According to the Department of Industry and Trade, this year, thanks to favorable weather condition, the province’s lychee output is forecast to reach more than 180,000 tons, including 60,000 tons of early-ripening lychees and 120,000 tons of main-crop lychees. Of which,1,500 tons from 17 growing areas granted codes by the US, covering 205 hectares, are eligible for export to the country.

The province identifies the US as a potential market with great purchasing power. The export of lychee and other local agricultural products to this market is still facing some difficulties in transportation costs and preservation technology.
The department proposed the Vietnam Trade Promotion Department and the European-American Market Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade have orientations to help the province in activities to promote consumption of lychee and other products of Bac Giang province in the United States.
Vice Chairman Tuan concluded that the US is a large and potential market. Goods eligible for export to the US can be shipped to many other countries around the world. Therefore, Bac Giang has focused on applying scientific and technical advances to create quality products that meet this market’s most rigorous standards.
According to him, over the past two years, the complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic has greatly affected the supply chain and consumption of goods. Amid these difficult conditions, Bac Giang province has implemented a series of activities to promote trade and support the sale of lychee and other key agricultural products.
He assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to receive the recommendations and suggestions of enterprises in the export of lychee and other local key products, and regularly coordinate with the Vietnam Trade Office in the US to grasp the market information and the US Government's regulations on import and export in order to provide timely guidance for enterprises.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development was urged to actively cooperate with agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, irradiation units, and packing facilities to carefully prepare standardized and safe conditions for lychee export.
Luc Ngan and Tan Yen districts must strictly manage their code-granted lychee growing areas and packing facilities; prepare all necessary conditions to support lychee harvest and fix the shortcomings from previous years, ensuring a successful lychee season this year.
On the same day, in Bac Giang, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in exporting lychees to the US was signed.
