Bac Giang always creates favorable conditions for Japanese investors

(BGO) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs cooperated with the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam and the Japan Trade Promotion Organization (JETRO) to hold a conference themed "Meet Japan 2020" on November 25 in Hanoi, with the presence of nearly 1,000 delegates.

In his opening remarks, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said Japan is the largest provider of official development assistance (ODA) loans to Vietnam with a total value of about 31 billion USD, and the second largest investor with a combined investment capital of over 60.2 billion USD by August 2020. Currently, more than 4,500 Japanese-invested projects are valid in the Southeast Asian nation.

Yamada Takio, Ambassador of Japan to Vietnam, said Vietnam is a friendly, hospitable country with a strong rise. Although it was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, while many countries have seen negative growth, the Vietnamese economy has still developed and recorded a high growth.

The conference featured three sessions on investment, trade, agriculture; Japanese experience in digital transformation and smart city development; and locality-to-locality cooperation, human resources and education-training.

Speaking at the conference and bilateral meetings between Bac Giang province’s officials and the Japanese Ambassador, Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’ Committee Le Anh Duong said Japan now ranks fourth in terms of the number of investment projects and sixth in total registered investment capital among more than 20 countries and territories investing in Bac Giang.

Bac Giang is among top localities nationwide in economic growth, with increasingly synchronous and modern transport, urban and industrial infrastructure and services. Cultural exchange and friendship cooperation between people in Bac Giang and Japan have been organized regularly.

With the potential and abilities of the two sides, the Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee said that there is much room for Bac Giang province and Japanese partners to develop cooperation. He said Bac Giang planned to reserve an industrial park and service urban area with good location and infrastructure for Japanese investors. Paying attention to administrative procedure reform, the province will set up a provincial investment promotion board to improve professionalism, offering one-stop-shop services to investors coming to Bac Giang.

Duong affirmed that Bac Giang always creates favorable conditions for enterprises to explore opportunities, invest and do business in the locality. He wanted the ambassador to help open Japanese language training classes for students in schools for gifted students in the province. Bac Giang wishes to have a vocational school invested or sponsored by Japan.

The Japanese diplomat was asked to introduce Japanese investors to Bac Giang and pay attention to training qualified human resources for Japanese enterprises in Bac Giang and northern Vietnam.

The Embassy of Japan should introduce a province of Japan for Bac Giang to set up twinning ties, he said, adding that the province will open an investment promotion conference with Japanese businesses and organizations in the locality to introduce its potential and strengths in early 2021.

For his part, Ambassador Yamada Takio thanked the leaders of Bac Giang province for their warm welcome. The ambassador said he would pay heed to the province's wishes and proposals. At the same time, he suggested Bac Giang further improve its investment environment.

The guest wished the province to re-establish the Japan working group (which has been suspended since 2015), thereby creating favorable conditions to support Japanese investors coming to Bac Giang to explore cooperation opportunities.
