China’s Sunny Optical Technology Group plans 2.5B investment in Vietnam

China’s Sunny Optical Technology Group is planning to invest up to US$2.5 billion to build an optical production complex in northern Thai Nguyen Province.

According to a memorandum of cooperation signed March 8 by Sunny Optical and the provincial authorities, the company’s fifth plant will make an annual revenue of $5 billion and will create 15,000 new jobs.

Leaders of Thai Nguyen Province and Sunny Optical Technology Group signed a memorandum of cooperation on March 8, 2023, attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang suggested Sunny consider building a research and development center.

Sunny has invested in four projects with total capital of $130 million to produce infrared lenses for cars, phone camera modules, and surveillance cameras. Its plants are in industrial parks in Thai Nguyen, the northern province of Vinh Phuc and Hanoi.

A key measure to effective public investment disbursement is to promote investment with focuses, with priority given to regional linkage projects to create new socio-economic development spaces for localities, said Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son at a regular Cabinet press conference on March 3.
