‘My Mr Wife’ wins 2018 Golden Kite Award

Chang Vo Cua Em (My Mr Wife) by Director Charlie Nguyen, which is a movie on the struggle of woman in modern society, received the 2018 Golden Kite Award by the Vietnam Cinematography Association at a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on April 12.

The film is adapted from the English novel Busy Woman Seeks Wife by Annie Sanders, featuring the love story of a homely man and a successful woman. Vietnamese-America director and film producer Charlie Nguyen’s comedy also won the Golden Kite awards for Best Feature Film.

In the featured film category, the best screenwriter award for cinematographic film was presented to screenwriter – director Do Duc Thinh. Hoang Yen Chibi won the award for Best Actress, while the Best Actor award went to Lien Binh Phat.

In the TV series category, the Golden Kite awards were presented to director Do Phu Hai and Pham Ngoc Chau’s 40-episode Ben Kia Song (The Other Side of the River), and director Mai Hong Phong’s 28-part Quynh Bup Be (“Doll” Quynh), both reflecting modern day social issues.

Nguyen Khai Anh received the Best Director award for his 24-episode series Ngay Ay Minh Da Yeu (The Day We Fell in Love) produced by Vietnam Television (VTV) Film Studio.

The Vietnam Animation Studio's 30-minute Bi Mat Hang Duong (Secret in Duong Cave) about a group of children on an adventure to Duong Cave, won Best Animation Film, while its director received the Best Animation Director award.

Me A by young director of Khanh Chi of the Quang Binh Province Television and Radio Station was named Best Short Film.

Director Doan Hong Le of VTV received the Golden Kite Awards for Best Documentary with Hay Nho Ban Dang Song (You’re Still Alive).

Notably, the Vietnam Cinema Association organised a ceremony to honour the two late People’s Artists Pham Khac and Nguyen The Doan for their great contributions to Vietnamese revolutionary cinema.

The organisers also handed out prizes to screenwriters, for sound and visual effects, cinematography research works and scientific films.

The 2018 Golden Kite awards drew 144 entries, including 14 featured films, 13 TV series, 14 cartoons, 61 documentary films, 14 scientific films and 26 short films.

Discovery to broadcast new film on Vietnam
A documentary titled “Vietnam: Connecting East Africa” will be broadcast on the Discovery East Africa channel on December 27 for the first time, and on the Discovery Southeast Asia three days later. 
 
Vietnamese female director honoured at Singapore film festival
Director Pham Thu Hang has been honored with the Best Director Award at the 29th Singapore International Film Festival for her documentary film “Mua Cat Vong” (The Future Cries Beneath Our Soil).
