HCM City: Ao Dai Festival scheduled for October 11-12

The seventh Ao Dai (traditional long dress) Festival in Ho Chi Minh City will take place at the Vietnam History Museum in District 1 from October 11-12.

The festival will bring together famous designers, cultural researchers and artists, and feature an array of activities, including a contest and a workshop on the traditional costume, organisers said on October 8.

Representatives of the organising committee speaks at a ceremony to announce the festival on October 8.

It opens the campaign “Hello Ho Chi Minh City” launched by the local tourism sector aiming to promote the city’s image.

The event has been rescheduled twice to April and July from its original date in early March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since 2014, the HCM City Ao Dai Festival has been held annually in early March. The festival aims to honour Vietnam’s traditional costume and promote HCM City’s tourism to domestic and foreign visitors.

Ao Dai design contest honours national costume
An Ao Dai design contest has been jointly launched by the Vietnam Women’s Union and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism with an aim of promoting both the image and the cultural value that the traditional long dress has in Vietnamese society.
 
Tailor passionate about woodblock-printed ‘ao dai’
(BGO) - Nguyen Thi Huyen (born in 1989) in My Ha commune, Lang Giang district (Bac Giang) has never eased her passion for traditional ‘ao dai’ (long dress). With her effort plus innate talent, she has gradually shown her ability in the field of fashion, especially with her collection of woodblock-printed ‘ao dai’.
 
Bac Giang’s women shine bright in Vietnam ao dai week
(BGO) – Responding to Ao dai (traditional long dress) week from March 2-8, 2020 launched by the Vietnam Women’s Union, many female officers, staff, members, public servants and laborers in Bac Giang province have actively joined the event, helping honor and widespread the beauty of the traditional long dress.
