Vietnamese films to compete at Berlin International Film Fest 2022

'Xe Tai Cua Bo' (My Father’s Truck) and 'Mien Ky Uc' (Memoryland) will represent Vietnam at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale).

'My Father's Truck' will compete in the Generation category alongside 16 other entries selected by Berlinale.

The feature debut of Brazilian director Mauricio Osaki is a coming-of-age road film about 10-year-old Vu Ngoc Nhi who skips school one day to help her father with his truck-for-hire, carrying goods for farmers in the suburbs of Hanoi.

After a arduous journey, the girl suddenly discovers her father's side job besides driving a truck is collecting dogs and bringing them to the slaughterhouse.

In 2015, it won the Best Short Film at Brazilian Film Academy.

'Memoryland' will vie in the Forum, Forum Expanded category with nine other entries.

The film has multiple stories set in various locations and periods of time closely connected by death.

One is about a poor boy carefully budgeting the expenses for his mother’s funeral. Another is about a woman who decides to bury her husband, killed in an accident at a construction site, in his hometown to comfort his soul.

It earned kudos at Busan International Film Festival in South Korea this October.

Berlinale 2022 will take place from Feb. 10-20, 2022 as an in-person event.
