Vietnamese action flick "578 Magnum" has been selected to compete in the Grand Prix for the Best Film Awards at the 26th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (POFF) in Estonia.

According to the film's production company, "578 Magnum" is also the first Vietnamese action film to compete at this international film festival, which is slated for Nov. 11-27.

The film is set to vie in the Grand Prix for the Best Film Awards, which has a total grant of 20,000 euro.

Directed by Luong Dinh Hung, it tells the story of a father who works as a container truck driver hunting down the underground criminals who kidnaped his daughter.

In addition to competing at this year's POFF, he said the film will take part in 11 more international film festivals from November 2022 to May 2023, including in South Korea and India.

After its domestic release in May, the film performed poorly at local box offices and received mixed reviews from critics and audiences.

It earned a mere VND3.4 billion (over $144,500) though it reportedly cost VND60 billion to make.

Although it did not achieve the expected revenue back home, from the end of November, the film will be released in nine countries around the world and is expected to rake in VND20 billion.

Hung revealed that the script for part two of the movie has been completed but didn't specify the official shooting schedule.

Founded in 1997, POFF is one of the biggest film festivals in northern Europe. It is one of only 15 international film events to receive accreditation from Federation Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films.

The festival screens around 250 features and more than 300 shorts and animations each year.
