The Kon Tum Provincial Department of Education and Training held a gong and folk-dance festival for ethnic minorities students in the province on November 12.

The students brought beautiful performances to the stage, recreating the traditional rituals and ceremonies of their ethnic groups such as the ceremony to welcome new-rice season of the Bahnar people and the water-worshipping ritual and funeral of the Jrai group.

Y Se Ba, a seventh grader from the secondary school in Dak Kroong Commune, Dak Glei District, said that this is his first time being selected to participate in a gong performance. “I am very happy and proud to be able to introduce the typical cultural features of my ethnic group,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Director of Kon Tum Provincial Department of Education and Training Dinh Thi Lan said that the festival aims to promote cultural and art activities at schools, thereby raising pride and patriotism among students.

It also sought to increase the younger generation’s awareness of the Central Highlands Gong Cultural Space, thus raising their responsibility in preserving and promoting the unique value of the UNESCO-recognised heritage.
