Folk singing festival of Luc Ngan’s ethnic groups proposed to be intangible cultural heritage

(BGO) – The Department of Science and Technology has had a working session and surveyed condition to propose science and technology task at the provincial level. It aimed to make proposal to recognize the Folk singing festival of Luc Ngan’s ethnic groups as intangible cultural heritage starting from 2024.

The market in Luc Ngan has special cultural practices which are similar to Sa Pa love market. It is the place for locals not only to sell and buy things but also exchange stories, meet each others and find partners via their own folk melodies of Sli, Luon and Sloonghao from Nung and Tay people, Shoongco from San Chi people, Soong Co of San Diu people and Sing ca of Cao Lan people.

In 1996, the People’s Committee in Luc Ngan district revived the traditional singing festival at Chu market on every lunar February 18 and local highland kermis.

After paying the field trip and gathering comments from organizations and the district People’s Committee, the working delegation agreed and assigned the competent divisions to research, propose the provincial level science and technology task which is to make proposal to recognize the Folk singing festival of Luc Ngan’s ethnic groups as intangible cultural heritage.
