Provincial Chairman Nguyen Van Linh requests to continue investment attraction, maintain economic growth rate

(BGO) - Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee of Bac Giang province Nguyen Van Linh chaired the monthly meeting on 20 March.

According to Trinh Huu Thang, Director of the provincial Department of Planning and Investment, the economic growth rate in the first quarter reached the highest rate ever, estimated at 13.4 percent in which industrial sector leapt to the highest rate, 24.8 percent

After the Lunar New Year, almost all enterprises maintain stable production. The processing and manufacturing sectors with giant corporations continue driving economic growth. Particularly, the province attracted 142.8 million USD of investment capital including 9 new domestic projects and 11 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects.

The agricultural production value is estimated at 4,670 billion VND (205 million USD), equal to 101.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. According to Duong Thanh Tung, Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province is highly concentrating on preventing and combating African swine fever. A number of localities have spent the budget buying chemicals and lime powder to sterilize and prevent the risk of the disease outbreak.

In the first quarter, the market price has been kept stable. The budget revenues have positively changed with a dramatic increase in revenue from the business sector. Besides, the socio-cultural sector, justice, administrative reform, dealing with people’s affairs, resolving complaints, defense and security have been strengthened.

At the discussion session, according to a number of participants, the total investment capital has not deserved potentials of the province despite the improved investment climate. Mobilizing people’s involvement in social insurance and voluntary insurance faces enormous difficulties while the rate of people buying voluntary insurance is low.

In his conclusion, the provincial Chairman Nguyen Van Linh requested high concentration on industrial and construction sectors to maintain the economic growth rate. He added, the BT and public investment projects are slow in progress facing many obstacles in implementation. Thus, the related agencies, authorities and localities are required to better investment project attraction.

The provincial Chairman directed the electricity sector to promptly build the power grid system to ensure stable electricity supply to the Tay Yen Tu spiritual and ecological complex in Son Dong district, thereby fostering tourism development of the province.

Trinh Huu Thang, Director of the provincial Department of Planning and Investment reports the socio-economic development of the province in the first quarter of 2019.

Regarding agricultural development, the provincial Chairman affirmed its important role in stabilizing society especially living of the peasants although this sector has only made small contribution to the province’s growth rate.

In addition, he requested the authorities and localities to prioritize combating African swine fever while preventing the risk of an epidemic. In case of an epidemic, it is necessary to localize the epidemic zone and propagandize local people not to stop buying pork.
