(BGO)- A working delegation of Xaisomboun, Laos province headed by Bounthone Pankeo, Vice Director of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry paid a field trip to learn experience in farm production in Yen The district (Bac Giang province) on February 8.
According to Bounthone Pankeo, the working delegation to Bac Giang province includes the specialists of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Foreign Affair Office and a number of outstanding farmers of Xaisomboun province.

Xaisomboun is a mountainous province in Laos with large area, rich soil and high forest coverage rate (80 percent of the total area). HMong ethnic group accounts for nearly 70 percent of the population. Vietnam is the biggest foreign investor in Xaisomboun including many firms working with products from cassava. Its main industrial sector is mineral exploitation mainly iron ore and gold mines.
Natural, climate and soil conditions of the province are suitable for planting and livestock. Thus, Lao Government orientated the province for agriculture-based development.

However, farmers in Xaisomboun province face limited capital and application of science and technology in farm production. On this occasion, the working delegation expected to visit the farming models, learn farming methods, application of science and technology and experience in farm production especially livestock of Bac Giang province, thereby studying to apply in production of Xaisomboun province.
Vice Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Giang province said, they chose Yen The district as a destination for the delegation to visit because after the survey to Xaisomboun province, they found Xaisomboun’s climate conditions suitable for tea cultivation. The large land area where private households have enough land to develop concentrated production including forestation (growing acacia wood), goat and sheep feeding, growing orange, pomelo and citrus trees, especially raising chicken under forest canopy also suit Xaisomboun’s conditions.

Le Ba Thanh added, Bac Giang’s agriculture is not to sell products but it also links with some other types like community-based tourism, spiritual and leisure tourism.
The delegation visited some farming models in Xuan Luong commune including Than Truong Cooperative with the famous product Ban Ven tea, goat farming model of Nguyen Van Bay’s household in Dong Gian village, chicken raising under forest canopy of Do Thi Luyen’s household in Xuan Moi village. At these farming models, the participants were shared practical experiences by the households.
