Bac Giang supports Laos’ Xaysomboun province in agricultural development

(BGO) - A delegation from the Department of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos’ Xaysomboun province has visited Bac Giang province to learn from its experience in agricultural production.

During their five-day stay in Bac Giang, the delegation was given the best conditions to approach typical models, thereby acquiring practical knowledge to be applied in their locality.

Xaysomboun officials and farmers listen to lychee growing experience shared by a Luc Ngan district leader.

Nearly 20 members of the Xaysomboun delegation were present in Bac Giang in rainy days. Visiting the Ven village tourist area, Xuan Luong commune, Yen The district, they were very happy and excited when contemplating vast tea hills and green tea buds, and experiencing tea picking.

Each member listened attentively, took notes and asked questions through an interpreter. Sharing about the Ven village tea cultivation process, a representative of Than Truong Cooperative said that to make high-quality tea, tea leaves must meet the standards. After being picked, they are preliminarily wilted under normal temperature in a cool place.

Then they are stirred continuously and crumped. When the tea cools, it is spread on the ground that has been cleaned for about 1 hour to get the "yin" air, and stored in a styrofoam box for a week before packing. The cooperative also trim the tea trees to just half a body to make it easy to care for and harvest as well as to serve community tourism development.

Le Ba Thanh, Deputy Director of the Bac Giang provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said under the cooperation agreement between Bac Giang province and Xaysomboun province signed in August 2021, the department has developed plans to support the Lao province to build agricultural models, including those on improving beef cattle and goat.

The representatives of the department and related units organized a field trip to Xaysomboun province to see which crops and livestock suitable for local weather, climate, temperature, and soil conditions.

The survey shows that the weather in Xaysomboun is very suitable for tea growing. Its large forest land area enables it to plant eucalyptus and acacia. Raising goats and sheep, growing citrus trees, especially raising chickens under the forest canopy also meet the local conditions.

The Xaysomboun delegation visits a cattle fattening model in Canh Thuy commune, Yen Dung district.

The Lao delegation also visited many typical models of Bac Giang farmers, including raising goats and chickens under the forest canopy in Xuan Luong commune, Yen The district; farming beef cattle in Canh Thuy commune and black carp in ponds in Duc Giang commune, Yen Dung district. In each model, the owner shared a lot of experience with the delegation.

Through the seminar on "Solutions to develop cultivation, animal husbandry and aquaculture", the Lao guests learned a lot of useful farming knowledge from Bac Giang agricultural experts and farmers.

Despite some difficulties, Bac Giang province has given the Xaysomboun delegation the best conditions so that after this field trip, they will have more knowledge and experience to apply in production in the locality to achieve results as expected.
