Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong and delegates donated money at the launching ceremony.

The event was attended by Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong; Colonel Pham Manh Thuong, member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board, Director of the provincial Department of Public Security; along with representatives from agencies, trade unions, armed forces, businesses, the People’s Committees, and Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Giang city and districts.

Tran Cong Thang, President of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee highlighted the outcomes of supporting poor people over the past time and emphasised that this year’s “Month for the Poor” runs from October 17 to November 18 with the involvement of the whole political system and people from all walks of life to support those from disadvantaged circumstances.

From now to the traditional Lunar New Year Festival, the province strives to raise over 40 billion VND (1.7 million USD) to build 300 houses for the poor. Officials and civil servants will donate one-day salary while business households will contribute at least 50,000 VND (2.2 USD) and families 20,000 VND (0.9 USD) each (excluding poor and near-poor families). Businesses also contribute part of their profits to support the poor.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong praised agencies, units, businesses, and donators for their practical activities, actively helping to reduce poverty and ensuring social welfare policies.

To realise the annual target of reducing the rate of poor households by 2-3 percent, Duong called on administrations at all levels, departments, units, localities and front organisations to carry out some main tasks such as building proper plans and measures to reduce poverty; improving public access to fundamental social services in healthcare, education and housing; mobilising and making effective use of all resources; and promoting social engagement in poverty reduction efforts.

He also suggested continuously implementing credit policies for poor and near-poor households as well as those who have just escaped poverty, in addition to expanding effective poverty reduction models. It is also necessary to encourage businesses, cooperative groups, cooperatives, and cooperatives unions to open vocational training classes to generate jobs at home or labour exports for the poor. Duong asked relevant agencies to honour outstanding individuals and units in the campaign “Bac Giang joins hands for the poor – Not leaving anyone behind”.

At the launching ceremony, 36 units, localities and businesses registered to donate over 37 billion VND (1.6 million USD) to “Fund for the Poor”. The fund also directly received 102 million VND (4,500 USD) at the event. On the occasion, the provincial Fatherland Front Committee recognized the “golden heart” of 11 outstanding units who have made remarkable contributions to supporting the poor.

During the “Month for the Poor”, individuals and organizations can donate money through the provincial Fatherland Front Committee or transfer money to the account of the local “Fund for the poor”: Number 3761.0.1062613 of the provincial State Treasury.
