Connecting to share

Thanks to the social networks’ advantages, many clubs and charity groups have connected and called for people’s donation to support the special difficult cases. For example, Heart connection club (under the provincial Red Cross Association), which was officially launched in May 2017, has raised over 400 million VND (17,600 USD) for charity work. Nguyen Xuan Dam, Chairman of the club informed that the member in each locality will proactive in seizing the information of impoverished circumstances with specific data, photo and video so as to spread out the charity spirit for the community via social networks. “Later on, we call for the donation for each person and frequently update the donors’ information”, he said.

Ngo Van Dung (born in 2004) in Ron hamlet, Thanh Luan commune (Son Dong) was one of the cases. Only six days after the club’s member posted Dung’s miserable life on facebook and zalo, nearly 7 million VND (307 USD) has been transferred to the Management Board to support his family. Dung’s mother, Ngo Thi Nha (born in 1969) informed that he was the second children with inborn cerebral palsy. Dung cannot move and relies on others for all activities. The little money Nha earns by scrap purchase is sometimes not enough for feeding three people; thus they are living in a seriously degraded house. When receiving the donation, she moved: “The warm sharing helps my family overcome the difficulty. I plan to make more loan to buy a cow to improve the life”.

Apart from social networks, coordination programmes bridge the kind-hearted people for the poor. For example, Song Thuong General Hospital and the provincial Association for the Elderly have jointly provided free eye examination and treatment for the impoverished older people since 2009. This year, the hospital has sourced over 1.1 billion VND (48,400 USD) from the Fund for social security to continue the humanitarian programme. Doctor Duong Quoc Huy, Vice Director of Song Thuong Hospital informed that they have focused on the districts of Song Dong, Luc Ngan, Luc Nam and Yen The to supply the poor mostly in the remote area with the healthcare services.

Spreading out in the community

The campaigns of “Day for the Poor” and “Month for the Poor” launched by the Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front in 2000 become the dynamic movements for the humanity and solidarity tradition.
