“Freshwater pearl oyster farming and culture” model enters final round of “first national start-up contest for rural youth”

(BGO) – The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union on September 24 announced the shortlist of 10 start-up ideas to the final round of “the first National Start-up Contest for Rural Youth 2018”, including the model of “Freshwater pearl oyster farming and culture” of Truong Dinh Tung (born 1992) in Dao Luoi hamlet, Dong Hung commune (Luc Nam district, Bac Giang province).

Tung has grown the oyster in the freshwater instead of the sea water and later implanted the pearl into its mantle epithelium rather than the visceral mass. It is a new technique that has been applied in Vietnam for a few years.

His pearl oyster farm is the first one in the northern province of Bac Giang. After 3 year start-up, Tung is now owning 5 sao (old measuring unit equals to 360 square meters) of water surface with over 10,000 oysters to be harvested.

Truong Dinh Tung is practicing the technique of cutting oysters’ cell at home.

To prepare for the final round, the provincial youth union supported Tung to make a representing report that introduces the model (less than 3 minutes). The final is scheduled in late November 2018 in Can Tho city.
