In order to encourage the working spirit of the laborers in the new year, the company leaders held a meeting to launch the emulation movements and give lucky money to each worker. Some workers who could not go to work due to family issues or transportation problems had informed the Human Resource Department”.

At Siflex Vietnam Company Limited in Quang Chau industrial park, due to the orders requiring products right after Tet, about 500 workers were divided into different work shifts to work during the holiday. In order to encourage laborers, each worker working on Tet was paid a bonus of 400,000 VND (17 USD) per day apart from the payment of 300 percent of wages (for day shifts) and 390 percent of wages (for night shifts) and an encouragement payment from 200,000 to 300,000 (VND) (8.6 to 12.9 USD) for those working for 2 consecutive days or more.

“On the first day after Tet, almost all of the workers returned and ready to start working. Thanks to the sufficient number of laborers after Tet, we felt assured to implement the production plans in the new year”, said Tran Huu Dung, chairman of the Company’s Labor Union cum Head of the Quality Management Board.

Currently, there are over 220 enterprises in the provincial industrial parks creating jobs for about 86,000 laborers from Bac Giang and other provinces. According to the brief report by the Labor Union of the provincial Industrial Zones Authority, some companies resumed their work earlier from 9 February (the 5th day of Tet). On the first working day after Tet holiday (11 February), the rate of laborers returning to work reached 97 percent while the percentage of laborers leaving jobs for no reasons or changing jobs is small.

A number of policies to hold laborers

Before, lacking laborers after Tet holiday troubles enterprises as it hinders fulfillment of the orders which badly affects the prestige and profits of the companies. Fortunately, in recent years, this issue has been improved. Particularly, the rate of laborers returning to work on the first day after the Tet holiday reaches 95 percent or more.

Ngo Bien Cuong, Vice Chairman of the provincial Confederation of Labor said, “Currently, a majority of workers feel assured at work and committed to the employers. Besides, the companies pay attention to the workers’ living with proper remuneration”. Especially, in the periods of before, during and after Tet, many companies paid in advance half of the monthly salary, Tet bonus or announced the allowances for the workers in the new years.

Particularly, Nichirin Vietnam Company Limited in Quang Chau industrial park has paid allowances for workers based on their contributions and profits of the company in line with Tet gifts and bonuses since 2014. Besides, they organized a year-end party, a party after Tet and used some 100 million VND (some 4,309 USD) to held a Lucky draw program for workers.

The useful gifts such as motorcycles, televisions, fridges or washing machines helped many workers improve their living in the new year. “It’s not easy to find a stable job at the average income of 8 million VND (344 USD) per month. Hence, recently, most of the workers in the companies have obeyed the regulations and returned to work as scheduled”, said Vi Thi Bich.

Nguyen The Dung, Vice Director of the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs said: “In order to make laborers assured at work, the companies need to improve the working environment and conditions, increase salaries, build housing, cultural institutions and kindergartens for workers’ children. These are long-term measures to attract skilled human resources contributing to the companies”.
