Giap Nguot "resistance village"

(BGO) - During these historic August days, coming to the Giap Nguot residential group in Dinh Ke ward (Bac Giang city), we were surprised by the rapid change of the locality. This place was considered a red address and a "resistance village" in the period of national struggle for power. That good tradition is the foundation and motivation for the Party Committee and leaders of the residential group and the people here to stay firm in the path of building the homeland in the new period.

Heroic past

Despite the age of nearly 90, the memories of the days of joining the Youth Team for National Salvation remain intact in the thinking of Nguyen Thi Am in the Giap Nguot residential group, Dinh Ke ward.

Nguyen Thi Am (second from right) shares the war memory with officers at Dinh Ke ward.

That day, Am was only 13 years old, the youngest among the team members of the village who were alive to the revolutionary ideals, trained and grew up. With an intelligent, agile and brave personality, the young liaison girl excellently accomplished any tasks assigned by the organisation.

Together with Am, other members such as Tha, Thuan, Kham, Doi, Khac and Nghien in Giap Nguot also actively participated in the movements and fulfilled their tasks well.

Nguyen Kham, now 92 years old, one of the senior revolutionists in Giap Nguot, confided that "I joined Viet Minh's Youth Team for National Salvation since 1942. After the successful August Revolution, experiencing many working positions, I was trained and grew up in the army and in 1991 I retired with the rank of colonel”.

During the French colonial rule, the Giap Nguot residential group of Dinh Ke ward (also called Nguot village) belonged to Dinh Ke district, adjacent to Lang Thuong province - the gateway of the northeastern mountain and forest region.

In late 1938, comrade Hoang Quoc Viet established the Party Committee of Lang Thuong province to lead the revolutionary movement in the whole province. In the years of 1943-1944, the revolutionary movement in Dinh Ke developed strongly.

With such great contributions, on January 10, 1971, the Prime Minister signed a decision to present the “Making contributions to the nation” certificate to Nguot village, Dinh Ke commune (now the Giap Nguot residential group, Dinh Ke ward) and 12 families here for their achievements of having raised the spirit of patriotism, actively fighting imperialism, protecting the revolution, and contributing to the success of the August Revolution in 1945".

Toward the future

Promoting the traditional patriotism and unyieldingness of the predecessors, throughout the long history of struggling to defend the Fatherland, the generations of people in Giap Nguot enthusiastically set out to safeguard the country. As many as 40 young men enlisted and joined the struggle to defend the Fatherland, of whom seven bravely sacrificed their lives during the war against the US and the border war to protect the Fatherland.

After the successful August Revolution, Giap Nguot people started to build their homeland. The wild fields were converted into peach gardens and green vegetable fields. In the process of urbanisation, with the favorable location next to the National Highway 1, Giap Nguot people have focused on developing trade and multi-industry services while building many high-tech agricultural models to raise production efficiency. For 12 consecutive years, Giap Nguot won the title of provincial-level cultural residential group.

According to Nguyen Thi Mai, head of the Giap Nguot residential group, the "resistance village" is now a miniature urban area, with adjoining high-rise houses and villas.

Clean and beautiful concrete roads reach all the alleys. The residential group has 72 households with nearly 300 people but there are no poor and near poor households. Families with annual income of more than 100 million VND (4,330 USD) account for about 50 percent and many households have an income of more than 500 million VND (21,600 USD) per year...

August comes back with the red flag with a gold star fluttering. Remembering the heroic days, the Party Committee and leaders of the residential group and people in Giap Nguot today are more proud of the changes in their homeland. They have been promoting the revolutionary tradition and jointly building their hometown more prosperous and beautiful.
