Conscientious soldiers in white blouse in epicenter Yen Dinh

(BGO) – These days, the health officers and workers at Medical Station in Yen Dinh commune, Song Dong district (Bac Giang province) have become soldiers with spirit of fighting pandemic like enemy who are ready to the frontline to prevent the Covid-19 spread.

Yen Dinh commune has 6 villages and nearly 1,200 households, 80 percent of whom are ethnic minority people.

The health workers at Medical Station in Yen Dinh commune (Son Dong district) take sample of the residents in isolated area for SARS-CoV-2 test.

Doctor Nguyen Thi Hanh, Head of the Medical Station in Yen Dinh commune told: “It seemed to be the unforgettable moment for me and my colleagues in the afternoon of August 4 when 2 first cases in Dong Chu village tested positive to SARS-CoV-2 virus. The Steering Committee for Covid-19 prevention (Steering Committee) in the province, district and officer at the provincial Center of Disease Control (CDC) delivered urgent instruction to implement the professional measures. The communal medical forces were mobilized to spray the disinfectant chemical to the lockdown area, support the patients for isolation and treatment”.

From 2pm on August 4 till 2am on August 5, all officers at the Station worked non-stop, travelled to the villages, households to review and make the list of people contacting to Covid-19 patient (F1) then transported them to the concentrated isolation site as well as self quarantine at home to F2 cases.

Nearly 400 households with over 1,400 people in Dong Chu, Tien Ly and a part of Trai Chua villages in Yen Dinh commune were put under social isolation. In the next days, more Covid-19 patients (4 people) at the same family in Dong Chu village were recorded, causing more heavy load on the health workers.

The communal Medical Station has 9 people, 4 of whom were dispatched from other commune. Because the Medical Station is located in the isolated area, the living condition, accommodation of the officers and staff are at the station. The functional rooms are working place in day time and resting time at night. Even several people must lie on the floor and corridor on the hot days.

Everyday, their meals are prepared by the staff at the communal People’s Committee while the foods are donated by many kind-hearted organization and individuals, firstly gathered at the disease control station then delivered to the communal office.

In the peak days, most of them work from early morning till late at night to travel to the villages to review, list the F cases, check temperature and health condition, consult the locals on the preventive measures to keep operating all activities of the station.

Nguyen Thi Doan Trang (born in 1989), a staff at the Medical Station shared she must stop breast feeding to her 1 year old son and ask her mother to take care of him to go to work while her 8 year old son is taken care by her husband. She can only talk and see her family via the smart phone for 10 days.

Similarly, Quach Gia Dinh (born in 1989) is in charge of updating the list of F cases, summarizing the document relating to disease examination, treatment and pandemic prevention to report to higher level for 15 – 16 hours per day. He rarely goes to sleep before 12pm.

Now, Yen Dinh commune has 155 outpatients who follow treatment of high blood pressure at several villages and 12 others who must use regular medicine for mental illness.

To ensure the health condition for the patients and community, the staff at the communal Medical Station deliver the medicine to each house of the patients in the high risk areas of Dong Chu, Tien Ly and Trai Chua villages while asking the health workers at Cam Dan and Tuan Dao communes to examine and deliver the medicine to the residents at other villages.

According to Chairman of the People’s Committee in Yen Dinh commune Hoang Van Hung, it is so lucky when all residents in the isolation area were taken samples for testing with negative result (over 1,400 samples).

The commune has 41 F1 cases under concentrated isolation and 471 F2 cases under self quarantine at home. The medical workers in the commune have actively joined hands together with competent forces and residents in the pandemic combat to protect the community health.
