First metro train for Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien line launched

Ho Chi Minh City’s Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) held a ceremony on the morning of October 13 to welcome the first metro train of Ho Chi Minh City’s first metro line, Ben Thanh-SuoiTien.

The ceremony was attended by Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan and Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio.

The blue and white three-car train is designed to assist people with disabilities.

The blue and white three-car train is designed to assist people with disabilities. The train has a speed limit of 110km per hour on elevated sections and 80km per hour in underground sections.

The train’s parts were manufactured and assembled in Japan and were tested for safety before being transported to Ho Chi Minh City.

This is the first train of 17 for the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien line brought to Ho Chi Minh City in October this year.

According to MAUR, the train will have a trial run at thedepot in District 9 in January 2021 and will then see atrial run on the whole metro line.

The Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien line has a total length of 19.7km with 14 stations, using the ODA from Japan.

About 77% of the project has been completed and it is scheduled to be put into operation in late 2021.
