Bac Giang makes efforts for poor people, flood victims

(BGO) - These days, agencies, units, localities, organizations and individuals in Bac Giang province are actively mobilizing resources for the provincial Fund for the Poor and people in central flood-hit areas. The activities are in response to the Peak Month for the Poor 2020 (from October 17 to November 18) and the Social Security Programme 2021.

Urgently supporting natural disaster-affected areas

Recently, heavy rains and floods in the central provinces have been developing complicatedly, causing great human and property damage and seriously affecting people's lives. With the spirit of "mutual support”, members of the Heart Connection Club (under the provincial Red Cross Society) have actively persuaded "philanthropists" to support people in the central region.

Crystal Martin Vietnam Co., Ltd. registers to support the Fund for the Poor 2020 and the Social Security Programme 2021.

After 10 days, the club has raised nearly 220 million VND (9,492 USD), 1.7 tonnes of rice, nearly 100 barrels of porridge, filtered water, dried food, and seasonings. The club plans to deliver the donations to flood-affected people on October 30.

Agencies, units, enterprises and member organizations of the Fatherland Front in the province have simultaneously launched drives to encourage officials, civil servants, employees, workers, and trade union members to support at least one day's salary.

Typically, the provincial Labor Confederation has persuaded all trade union members, employees and labourers to make donations. The Women's Unions at all levels have raised more than 1 billion VND (43,170 USD). Many individuals and households are willing to share difficulties with people in flooded areas.

Mobilizing all resources for the poor

Ngo Sy Long, head of the Mass Mobilization Commission of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Giang city said since 2015, the total resources for the city's social security programmes have hit over 50 billion VND (many times higher than the targets). From this amount, each year the city supports the building and repair of 20-30 houses for poor and near poor households.

Not only taking care of the poor in the city, every year, local associations and unions also care for difficult cases inside and outside the province.

The local business community has made great contributions. Ha Ngoc Hoa, Vice Chairman of the Bac Giang Import and Export Joint Stock Company, said that since 2015, the company has donated nearly 3 billion VND (129,600 USD) for social security activities in the province. So far this year, it has provided nearly 1 billion VND for the poor and for pandemic prevention and control. Most recently, the company launched a programme to raise funds for people in the central region.

Tran Cong Thang, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee said that to get this result, annually, based on the reality, the Standing Board of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee proactively develops plans and campaigns to support the Day for the Poor and the Peak Month For the Poor and sends them to all departments, agencies, businesses and localities in the province. It also directs the member organizations to call on their members to actively respond to the campaigns.

At the launching ceremony of the Peak Month for the Poor 2020 and the Social Security Programme 2021, in addition to domestic agencies and enterprises, this year there were six FDI enterprises registering to support more than 600 million VND. Some companies join for the first time such as Crystal Martin Vietnam Company Limited (100 million VND) and Lens Vietnam Company Limited (100 million VND).

The Fund for the Poor 2020 and the Social Security Programme 2021 set a target of mobilizing 60 billion VND (2.59 million USD). Immediately after the launching ceremony, agencies, units, organizations, businesses, districts and city registered to donate nearly 65 billion VND.

During her working trip in the central province of Thua Thien Hue, Politburo member and Permanent National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong visited and presented gifts to local people who have been affected by the historical floods in the two districts of Phong Dien and Quang Dien.
 
Vietnam grants $21 mln disaster aid to support five flood-hit provinces
The government decided to grant VND500 billion ($21.52 million) to five central provinces worst hit by historic flooding for rescue and social welfare support.
 
Organizations and agencies in Bac Giang province donate to Fund for the poor and flood victims in Central region
(BGO) – On October 20, the Office of the provincial Party Committee (PPC) in Bac Giang province and the departments of Party Building held a ceremony to call for donation for the flood victims in the Central region. The event was attended by the Member of the Central Party Committee, former PPC Secretary, Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Bui Van Hai. 
 
International organizations pledge aid for central Vietnam flood victims
Several international organizations have pledged donations of cash and disaster relief goods to help central Vietnam’s disaster victims.
 
Floods, landslides take 102 lives in central Vietnam
The number of deaths caused by flooding and landslides in central Vietnam rose to 102 Monday night, with 26 still missing.
