VNRC launches SMS campaign to support flood victims in the central region

The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VNRC) has collaborated with the National Humanitarian Portal 1400 to launch an SMS campaign to help people in flooded areas of Vietnam.

The campaign, entitled "For people in flooded areas", will officially run from October 23 to December 21, to mobilise resources to help people in the central region overcome the consequences of floods.

All kind hearts across the country can support the campaign by texting UH to 1403. Each SMS will add VND20,000 (US$0.9) to the VNRC fund.

The Vietnam Red Cross Society president Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu said that more support, including money and goods, have been donated by the business community to the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VNRC) to help flood victims in the central region of Vietnam.

At a ceremony on Monday, MEDLATEC Group donated VND1.5 billion; the Ha Nam Province Red Cross Society donated VND600 million. The Garment 10 Company donated 1,000 gifts worth VND208 million; the Hai Tien Paper JSC donated 50,000 books; the Dat Xanh Mien Bac Real Estate and Service Joint Stock Company donated VND200 million, An Việt Song Hong JSC donated sports shoes and clothes worth more than VND1 billion, EVER Neuro Pharma Company Representative Office GmbH in Hanoi also donated VND200 million to the VNRC.

The Vietnam Red Cross Society president Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu said that VNRC at all levels had received more than VND62 billion to help flood victims in the central provinces, of which over VND22 billion collected at the central level and tens of tonnes of goods.

The VNRC has called on the local and international community to help people in disaster hit areas. The society has provided emergency aid of money and goods worth nearly VND5 billion to five provinces, including Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue to promptly support people to overcome difficulties and stabilise their lives. 

The donation includes VND2.2 billion in cash, 2,390 boxes of household goods, 480,000 Aquatab water purification tablets, 120,000 P&G water filter packages and more than 10 tonnes of relief goods including food, clothing and books.

During her working trip in the central province of Thua Thien Hue, Politburo member and Permanent National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong visited and presented gifts to local people who have been affected by the historical floods in the two districts of Phong Dien and Quang Dien.

The government decided to grant VND500 billion ($21.52 million) to five central provinces worst hit by historic flooding for rescue and social welfare support.
Organizations and agencies in Bac Giang province donate to Fund for the poor and flood victims in Central region

International organizations pledge aid for central Vietnam flood victims
Several international organizations have pledged donations of cash and disaster relief goods to help central Vietnam’s disaster victims.
Floods, landslides take 102 lives in central Vietnam
The number of deaths caused by flooding and landslides in central Vietnam rose to 102 Monday night, with 26 still missing.
