Sixth body retrieved from central Vietnam landslide site

A body was found Sunday at the Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant where a landslide had buried 17 workers last month.

The body was found in the bed of the Rao Trang River in Phong Dien District following search operations conducted by over 200 soldiers, police officers and sniffer dogs.

People and excavators search for missing people buried by a landslide in October near the Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant in Thua Thien-Hue Province.

The body's identity is yet to be confirmed, said Hoang Viet Cuong, deputy chief of office of the Thua Thien-Hue provincial administration.

The ongoing search operations have also found vestiges of houses and other objects under the river. The search is expected to resume Monday to find the 11 workers still listed missing.

On October 12, about half of a hill collapsed on to the camping areas and operation facility of the Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant, burying 17 workers.

The tragedy occurred as the central Vietnam region was being devastated by heavy rains, floods and landslides. With the latest discovery, six of the workers have been confirmed dead.

At least 235 people either died or went missing amid floods and landslides in central Vietnam in October, with economic damage estimated at around VND17 trillion ($734.67 million), according to the government.
