Starting career from safe agricultural products in Bac Giang

(BGO) - In recent years, safe agricultural production and business models in Bac Giang have gradually been proving effective. In order to create favorable conditions for young people, the youth unions at all levels in Bac Giang province have carried out many support activities.

Determining "safety" as the top goal of production and business activities, Nguyen Van Thuc (born in 1986) and his younger sister Nguyen Thi Thoi (born 1988) in Bao Dai commune, Luc Nam district founded a safe agricultural product chain in Luc Nam and Luc Ngan districts, with products made under VietGAP standards.

Customers can trace the origin and know the planting time and caring process. In addition to the traditional method, their shops reach customers through social networks. Currently, the chain of shops of the two siblings posts a turnover of hundreds of millions VND per month. According to Thoi, in order to gradually create civilized consumption habits for customers, the shops have cooperated with cooperatives to order farmers to grow seasonal vegetables, with a product information tracking board.

Truong Van Ngan (right) in Phong Van commune, Luc Ngan district starts his business with a model of raising French pigeons.

Owning a large-scale French pigeon farming model and more than 200 lychee trees cultivated up to VietGAP standard, Truong Van Ngan (born in 1989) in Phong Van commune, Luc Ngan has not only enriched himself but also helped many other young people in the locality. After many years working as a hired worker, Ngan spent his accumulated capital to start a business right in his hometown. From a few dozen couples of pigeons raised for food serving the family, Ngan borrowed more than 200 million VND (8,650 USD) to build cages and buy more parent pigeon couples for breeding and commercial purposes. He also renovated the cage system. Now, he has about 1,000 pairs of parent pigeons, turning out 10 batches of birds for sale each year, and earning about 25 million VND (1,081 USD) in profit per batch. His pigeons are bought by many local people and traders.

At present, the province has more than 350 models of young people running good business with an income of more than 200 million VND (8,650 USD) per model per year, of which there are about 100 models of agricultural economy with safe production orientation. With the advantageous climate and soil conditions, as well as support mechanisms and policies, the youth union members and young people in Bac Giang province have many opportunities to start a career in the agricultural sector.

Bui Van Hoang, Vice Secretary of the provincial Youth Union, said: "Over the past time, the youth unions at all levels have implemented an array of activities to create a favorable environment for youth union members and youngsters to start their careers. Since 2018, the provincial Youth Union has advised the provincial People's Committee to disburse the capital of the "Preferential credit for Bac Giang youths to start a business" Programme. So far, a total of over 12 billion VND has disbursed for 122 models and projects, helping local young people to expand production and create jobs for hundreds of local workers ". In addition, the provincial Youth Union has continued to effectively manage more than 2 billion VND (520,000 USD) in loans from the National Employment Fund through the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee. About 200 youth union members and young people have obtained loans.

Currently, the province has many safe agricultural production models owned by young people with high efficiency. Typical among them are the mushroom growing model by Nguyen Van Linh (Tan Yen district); the model combining breeding and fruit tree cultivation by Hoang Van Cong (Son Dong district); the model of growing lychee and sweet orange by Diep Van Doan (Luc Ngan district); the cordyceps cultivation model by Ong The Dung (Luc Nam district) or the model of raising black gecko by Ngoc Van Vien (Son Dong district).

In 2019 and 2020, the provincial Youth Union selected three projects with suitable products to support and guide how to participate in the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) programme. They are the Loc Son corn wine production by Nguyen Thi Kim Dung in Tam Tien commune (Yen The district), the Diep Nhat black musk tea production using science and technology by Nong Thi Hue in Hong Ky commune (Yen The district), and the waffle making by Nguyen Thi Hoa's family in Tan Trung commune (Tan Yen district). Now the three products have met the 3-star standard.
