Bac Giang honors 132 outstanding blood donors

(BGO) - The Steering Committee for voluntary blood donation (VBD) in Bac Giang province on August 15 held a ceremony to honor the outstanding blood donor and launch the activity in response of “Red journey programme in 2021”.

For recent years, the VBD movement in the province has been widespread, attracting numerous people at all strata. With the spirit of “Each sharing drop of blood saves one life”, the province has received more than 180,000 blood units since 2005, with higher and higher results that qualify and exceed the annual target assigned by the national Steering Committee.

Particularly in 2020, the provincial Steering Committee for VBD instructed and cooperated to organize 41 festivals and receive over 22,000 blood units, accounting for 163 percent of yearly plan and 1.2 percent of population to donate blood. Bac Giang province was one of localities to launch blood donating festivals in all districts and city.

Amid the impact of Covid-19 pandemic this year, the province successfully held two movements of “Blood donation on Tet occasion and Red Spring Festival” and “Summer red blood” to receive more than 8,200 blood units, making up 70 percent of yearly target.

2021 is the 13rd year the provincial Steering Committee has organized ceremony to honor the outstanding blood donors. On the occasion, 132 typical relatives, families and individuals in VBD movement were honored by the national Steering Committee for VBD, Vietnam Red Cross Society, provincial People’s Committee and Steering Committee for VBD.

The volunteers at the festivals are screened before donating blood.

At the event, the provincial Steering Committee for VBD launched “Red journey programme in 2021” as the eight consecutive event held in Bac Giang, striving to receive 6,000 blood units.

Right after the launching ceremony, several representatives, officials, labours, youths and people registered and donated their blood. The delegates also visited and gifted to 20 impoverished children under treatment at the provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, each worth 500,000 VND sponsored by the Bank for Investment and Development in Bac Giang province.
