Poor but fortitude student and her dream to enter university

(BGO)- These days, her relatives and neighbours share the happiness with Nguyen Thi Nhan (born in 2003) in village 3, Huong Lac commune, Lang Giang district for her high results in the 2021 high school graduation exam. She got total 27.4 points at group D including 9 points in literature, 9 in maths and 9.4 in English.

Nhan and her elder brother have grown up with their mother’s care since their childhood. Their mother Dao Thi Thanh (born in 1963) does not have a good health who has suffered from arthritis causing difficulty to move for many years and recent heart failure. Nhan helps her mother to move and practice her health.

“Thanh’s family used to be a poor household many years ago and now a near poor household but Nhan has been very hard working and gained many achievements in study. Her ceaseless efforts are deserving of certificates of merit and awards for years”, said Do Van Quyen, head of village 3, Huong Lac commune.

This poor student faced the hardest time in 2020 when her mother got blockage of blood vessels in her legs and her elder brother got a traffic accident. That time, her family had to borrow money to pay for the fees.

“I felt so stuck that time that I wanted to give up my dream to enter the University of Transportation. I intended to go to work in the industrial park after I graduated from high school to support my mum and brother. However, I was encouraged by my teachers while my mum and brother’s health gradually recovered, so I tried to pay attention to my study”, Nhan told in tears.

Sharing about her study, Nhan said initially she chose group A1 including maths, physics and English but she decided to choose group D in the middle of second term to suit her strong points. In the final months of the school year, Nhan speeded up revision for the exam when she often stayed up late for study and got up early to help her mother with cooking then hurried to school.

According to Nguyen Van Dat, teacher in charge of class 12A10, Lang Giang 1 High School, Nhan has achieved excellent student title for 3 consecutive years especially she won second prize in Civic Education subject at the provincial Contest for Excellent Students when she was at grade 12 and many other prizes at different contests of the school. She was in top 3 of excellent students of class 12A10 and one of the students scoring 10 at the high school graduation exam (in Civic Education).

Nhan was selected to the University of Transportation by academic transcript review method, which is her lifelong dream. However, it is hard for her family to manage her study in next 4 years.

“The local government and school have paid attention and supported Nhan for her study; however, this poor but studious student needs more attention and support from organizations and kind-hearted people to continue her dream”, said Do Van Quyen, head of village 3.
