The two, aged 59 and 34, were picking firewood along a river near their home on Saturday as the incident happened.

Since Saturday, the central region has received downpours with rainfall ranging from 70 to 150 mm due to a combination of a cold spell, an intertropical convergence zone, and windward terrain of the Annamite Range.

By Sunday evening, heavy rains have caused rivers to overflow, turned streets into streams, upturned daily life in the central region, and left at least three others missing.

According to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, within Monday, the area from Nghe An to Thua Thien Hue provinces will receive rainfall of 50-130 mm and up to 150 mm in some places.

It also warns central localities of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and more flooding in low-lying and riverine areas.
