Captain Doan Van Phuong connects charity hearts

(BGO) - "Choose jobs to do, choose places to go, choose people to encourage and help" are the three criteria that Captain Doan Van Phuong (born in 1986), Secretary of the Youth Union of the provincial Public Security Agency, has implemented to maintain volunteer programmes. Thanks to the active connection, Phuong and the youth of the unit have helped many people with difficult situations in the province.

Joining the youth union work in the police force since 2014, every year, Captain Phuong proposes many activities to contribute to spreading the volunteer spirit among the people's police officers.

In 2021, the Youth Union of the provincial Public Security Agency sponsored 27 disadvantaged students in the districts of Son Dong, Tan Yen and Yen The. Last September, the youth unions of the provincial Public Security Agency and the police force of Son Dong district, and units and businesses carried out the youth project "Painting the Red Scarf Red House" for the family of Ha Tu Quyen (3rd grade) in Thuong 1 residential area, An Chau township (Son Dong district).

This December, Phuong gave consultations on and organized the implementation of the programme "Internet connection and computers for children" in Tan Yen district, which is expected to give 70 gifts to students with difficult circumstances, policy beneficiary families, and disabled young people, as well as thousands of books to Hop Duc commune’s Youth Union...

Phuong is also the nucleus who directly participates in many youth projects and movements. Since 2019, the youth union of the provincial Public Security Agency has organized activities disseminating laws, harmful effects of drugs, and traffic safety... for nearly 10,000 students; donated more than 300 computers, lamps, school bags, bicycles, warm blankets and hundreds of sets of jackets to those in need; and supported the building of charity houses.

In the fight against Covid-19, Captain Doan Van Phuong has directed the youth union chapters to coordinate with the women's unions to design and receive more than 2,000 anti-droplet face shields, and raise more than 100,000 masks and many necessities and medical equipment to support frontline forces in the Covid-19 combat. In July 2021, he volunteered to join the delegation of the provincial Police Public Security Agency to support the southern provinces in the prevention and control of the epidemic.

My experience in mobilizing resources for organizing volunteer programmes is to choose the right people, the right things, and the right places to call for and support. Every trip, I invite sponsors to come to the places to see with their own eyes and work together to increase their trust.

Captain Doan Van Phuong

Phuong shared that the experience in mobilizing resources for organizing volunteer programmes is choosing the right people, the right things, and the right places to call for and support. For example, he contacted businesses with products such as paint, milk, filtered water or lamp and then sent an open letter asking them to support in kind or cash. Each trip, he invited sponsors to come to the places to see with their own eyes and work together to increase their trust. In addition, he also recommended organisation of four voluntary blood donation days with the theme "Blood drops for dear comrades", attracting thousands of officers and soldiers. Captain Phuong himself donated blood 14 times.

Many initiatives and creative ideas of Phuong have been applied in practice such as handbook for volunteers at the camp "Youth of the People's Public Security Forces study and implement Uncle Ho’s six teachings"; the "five Nos" movement in youth of the provincial public security forces (No smoking anytime, anywhere...)

From 2017 to 2020, Captain Doan Van Phuong was continously awarded the Certificates of Merit by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Federation, the provincial Youth Union, and the provincial Youth Federation for his outstanding performance in youth union work and youth movements. The Minister of Public Security also presented the Certificate of Merit to him for his excellent achievements in political activities.
