Vietnamese students win prizes at French Olympiad

Ngo Minh Long, a French bilingual 12th grader, Hon Gai High School, Quang Ninh province won the first prize of the 2021 French Olympiad in an individual test at level B1.

In addition, the Vietnamese student group was also placed second in the video clip introducing the country at this contest.

On December 11, according to information from the Department of Secondary Education, the 2021 French Olympiad took place from December 7 to 9 in an online format. This year's competition attracted 94 students from 20 countries on three continents: Africa, Europe and Asia.

At the award ceremony of the contest held online, Vietnamese student Ngo Minh Long was named in the first prize category of the individual exam at level B1. Tran Ngoc Minh, Ly Tu Trong High School for the Gifted, Can Tho City, although did not win the prize, was ranked 5th in the individual exam at level C1. In the video contest introducing the country, the product of the Vietnamese student group won second prize.

The ideas and learning spirit of the Vietnamese students was highly appreciated. The video introducing the country of the Vietnamese delegation has won great affection from the Francophone community and received many compliments from international judges. After watching the video, the judges all expressed their wish to visit Vietnam in the near future.

In terms of common ground, Vietnam is the Southeast Asian team with the best record in this competition.

The French Olympiad is a competition for high school students aged 16 to 18. The purpose of the contest is to enhance the value of learning French and create opportunities for cultural exchanges between students from different countries. This is also a way to praise students who are fluent in French and convey the image of a modern language, helping to connect young people in the Francophone community.

The competition is organised by the Conference of the Ministers of Education of French Speaking Countries (CONFEMEN) and the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).

In 2021, due to the complicated Covid-19 epidemic worldwide, the Organizing Committee had to move the contest to an online format. Initially, the competition was planned to take place in the Republic of Tunisia.
