Putting aside own joy to take care of Covid-19 patients

(BGO) – The Lunar New Year (Tet) festival is an occasion for each person, each family to reunite and exchange New Year wishes for peace and happiness. However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, many officers and soldiers of the armed forces in Bac Giang province have put aside the joy of uniting with their families to take care of patients at Covid-19 treatment facilities and medical quarantine sites.

Currently, the whole province has 17 facilities to receive and treat Covid-19 patients and 14 concentrated medical quarantine areas. The military force has been assigned to manage these facilities and ensure supply of necessities for citizens and medical staff there.

To carry out the assigned tasks, agencies and units in the province’s armed forces have mobilized the engagement of hundreds of soldiers. The soldiers have been involved in epidemic prevention and control for a long time, some of them have been away from their home for nearly a year. Acknowledging the above difficulties, commanders of agencies and units all have organized visits to encourage families with soldiers on duty during Tet.

For Major Nguyen Duc Huy, Political Commissar of Battalion 2, Regiment 831 under the provincial Military Command, who is on duty at the Covid-19 treatment facility in the provincial Nursing Center for Revolution Contributors, taking care of his children and preparing for Tet are all done by his parents. When we visited his family, his mother bought enough leaves for wrapping banh chung (square sticky rice cake), sticky rice, and green beans. Huy's mother said that now there is a lack of only the skilful hands of the soldier to wrap the square cake.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Chu Van Dai, Political Commissar of Regiment 831 said: “To help officers and soldiers feel secure in working, the Party Committee and leaders of the unit always pay attention to all aspects of their life and perform well the work of taking care of their families. For families with soldiers participating in the fight against the pandemic during the Lunar New Year, the unit leaders directly visited and presented gifts to encourage them”.

On the day before the Lunar New Year 2022, we were present at the Covid-19 treatment facility in Dong Son commune (Bac Giang city), as usual, the officers and soldiers of the municipal Military Command were performing the logistics work to serve the patients and medical staff here. Although they cannot return home to reunite with their families, all feel proud since they are contributing to the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic.

Major Vu Quoc Viet from the General Staff of the city Military Command both "fights" against the pandemic and does ideological work, encouraging his family and relatives. Every time he takes on a mission at quarantine sites, his family is very worried, while everything, from small to large, is done by his wife.

Leaders of Regiment 831 under the provincial Military Command visit and extend Tet wishes to the family of Major Nguyen Duc Huy, who is performing the pandemic prevention and control task.

Recognizing the hardships of his loved ones, every time he is free, Viet calls his relatives, sharing stories at the quarantine area and encouraging the family members. “Those sharings have helped my wife better understand her husband's duties, thus trusting, respecting and encouraging me to complete the task well. She said everything at home is taken by her. Therefore, all the hardships disappear, I hope the epidemic will end soon so that all families can be reunited during Tet", Viet shared.

The provincial Military Command has sent working delegations to visit quarantine sites to encourage soldiers who are on duty here. In particular, the unit has paid attention to implementing the policies for soldiers and citizens on Tet holiday. Traditional dishes will be included in meals during Tet.

The provincial Military Command also directed its affiliated agencies and units to well perform the logistics work during the Tet holiday for citizens, medical staff, doctors and soldiers under the motto "ensuring sufficient supplies with food safety and hygiene”.

It is necessary to create a happy spring atmosphere to welcome a warm Tet at Covid-19 treatment facilities and quarantine areas so that each citizen can have joy and excitement in the new year and feel secure in treatment to soon return to their family and the community.
