Cold spell to hit north this weekend

A cold spell is moving toward northern Vietnam and is expected to bring thunderstorms and showers on Friday.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the northern region will have temperatures of 13-16 degrees Celsius during the weekend, 10-13 degrees in mountainous areas and below 9 degrees in the higher mountains.

North-central provinces will also be affected from Friday, and have temperatures ranging from 13 to 16 degrees Celsius.

The area between Ha Tinh and Quang Ngai provinces will have showers and thunderstorms with the possibility of tornadoes, hail and strong winds.

This year there have been four cold spells. The ones on January 23 and 26 brought severe cold to northern and north-central provinces. In some places, temperatures dropped below 3 degrees Celsius, and even lower in the higher mountains.
