Bac Giang: Good effect from strict punishments over drunk driving

(BGO)- The activities to inspect and handle violations on drivers’ alcohol content level of the traffic police force in Bac Giang province have gained dramatic results. Particularly, the number of traffic accident cases dramatically decreased when the people’s awareness about law obedience has been improved.

According to the provincial Traffic Safety Committee, the functional force in the entire province handled nearly 3,400 traffic order and safety violations in March, including more than 850 cases violating regulation on alcohol content. It is reported that nearly 3,000 alcohol content violations have been fined in the last 3 months. Many violations at the highest level have been timely detected and handled.

The traffic police team and public security force of Luc Ngan district check blood alcohol content level over the motorbike drivers in the provincial road 293.

For example, V.C.C (born in 1972) in Kep town, Lang Giang district drove car with blood alcohol level surpassing 0.4 milligram in 1 litre of breath and other violations. C was fined total 36.4 million VND (1,550 USD) and revoked his driving license for 23 months.

The case of T.V.T (born in 1984) in Noi Hoang commune, Yen Dung district is another example. T disobeyed the requirement on blood alcohol content check by the police and he did not bring the driving license when he was driving car. Thus, T was levied with total 46 million VND (1,960 USD).

The traffic police team and public security force of Tan Yen district check blood alcohol content level over the automobile drivers on the national highway No 17, the section in Cao Thuong town.

Strict punishments of blood alcohol content violations have made a dramatic decrease in traffic accidents so far. It was recorded 50 traffic accidents occurred in the province in the first 3 months this years, killing 20 people and injuring 41 people, down 30.6 percent in the number of cases, 43 percent in deaths and nearly 28 percent of injuries.

It helps to make a positive change in cognition and awareness about traffic law obedience, gradually form the habit “not driving after drinking” and contribute to reducing traffic accidents. Besides, the tough punishments help to prevent against fights, inflicted injuries, public disorder and obstructing the public officers.
