The event was held by the Overseas Labour Department under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the IOM. It was also attended by officials of the departments of labour, invalids and social affairs of nine localities with large numbers of people working overseas.

The IOM highly values the Vietnamese Government’s important commitments to protecting migrant workers’ rights and creating a favourable environment for facilitating safe labour migration to benefit people, the community, and local socio-economic development, Park added.

Dang Si Dung, Deputy Director of the Overseas Labour Department, applauded the IOM’s cooperation programmes and activities in Vietnam, including technical and financial assistance for building and disseminating laws, improving cadres’ capacity and people’s awareness of safe labour migration, and protecting migrant workers abroad.

He particularly appreciated the IOM’s support for making and popularising the law on Vietnamese guest workers, and publishing two health handbooks for those working in Japan and the Republic of Korea.
