Hot spell imminent in northern Vietnam

Temperatures in northern Vietnam are forecast to rise from Thursday and reach 37 degrees Celsius this weekend, while southern parts of the country will hit 35-36 degrees.

The National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting said the northern region’s recent cool climate was ending after a four-day cold spell. A hot low-pressure zone from the west will grow from Thursday, causing temperatures to rise by one or two degrees a day.

In central Vietnam, a heat wave will hit a number of locations on Thursday before spreading over the region by Sunday, with the mercury reaching 36-39 degrees.

Temperatures in the Central Highlands will be around 32-34 degrees, and 35-37 degrees in the southern region.

The southwest monsoon will bring thunderstorms to cool the Central Highlands and southern areas from Sunday.
