Vu Thi Trang has a successful tournament
The Bangladesh Open International Challenge 2016, while not a big tournament, attracted many strong players. Vietnamese badminton also sent some of its best to the event, including Vu Thi Trang, Nguyen Thuy Linh, Nguyen Thi Sen (women), and Pham Cao Cuong, Le Duc Phat (men).
In the women’s singles event, three Vietnamese players entered the semi-finals, who were Trang, Sen (also from Bac Giang Province) and Linh.
The final match between Trang and Linh was rather exciting but Trang emerged victorious after two sets (21-13, 21-18).
Trang only lost one set on her way to the final in her three-set win over Indian player Das Ritupama, who is at 87th in world rankings.
In the women’s doubles event, Trang and Sen proved their strength to win the event convincingly.
Facing Indian duo Meghana Jakkapudi and Ram Poorvisha, the Vietnamese pair dominated the first set to take it at 21-6 but lost the second set at 20-22. In the third set, Trang and Sen easily won 21-11 to claim the match 2-1 on aggregate.
Trang has been sponsored by the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, Bac Giang province’s sport sector and Chinese sportswear manufacturer Li Ning, who provides her with jerseys, training equipment and travel cost./.
