Vietnam jumps nine places in FIFA rankings for October

Vietnam moved up nine places to stand 121st in the world, 21st in Asia and second in Southeast Asia, with a total of 261 points, in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings published on October 16.

Two wins over Cambodia in the Asian Cup 2019 qualification have added 20 points to Vietnam's FIFA rating.

The progress came as a result of Vietnam’s two successive wins over Cambodia in the Asian Cup 2019 qualifications, which added 20 points to the team’s FIFA rating.

The Philippines still led the Southeast Asian rankings this month after climbing seven places to 116th in the world and 19th in Asia, with 272 points. Meanwhile, Thailand settled for the third position in the region, at 138th in the world and 25th in Asia, with 225 points.

The next places in Southeast Asia went to Myanmar (world no. 155), Laos (world no. 162), Indonesia (world no. 165), Malaysia and Cambodia (joint world no. 170), Singapore (world no. 173), Brunei (world no. 184) and Timor Leste (world no. 192).

With regards to the continental rankings, Iran remains on top with 784 points, despite slipping nine places to 34th in the world, followed by Australia (world no. 43, 714 points) and Japan (world no. 44, 711 points).

The world’s top six teams remain unchanged, secured by Germany (1,631 points), Brazil (1,619 points), Portugal (1,446 points), Argentina (1,445 points), Belgium (1,333 points) and Poland (1,323 points).

Austria and FYR Macedonia reported the biggest leap in this month’s world rankings, moving up 18 places to world no. 39 and 85 with 745 and 410 points, respectively.
