Nguyen Thi Oanh wins bronze medal at ASIAD 2018

(BGO) – The Bac Giang born athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh won a bronze medal in the women’s 3,000m hurdles in the eight competition day of August 27 at the ongoing Asian Games 2018 (Asiad 18) in Indonesia.

Nguyen Thi Oanh competes with strong rivals in the women’s 3,000m hurdles.

Oanh confidently vying for the medal in the race with strong rivals from China, India and Bahrain…though she was not highly evaluated in the regional arena. Thanks to her suitable strength distribution, Bac Giang’s athlete successfully managed the safe distance from other competitors.

Completing 3,000-meter course with 9:43.83 after Bahrain athlete (9:36:52) and Indian athlete (9:40:03), Oanh earned a precious bronze medal.

In her forte of 3,000-meter hurdles, the highest achievement Oanh had gained was over 10 minutes. Thus, the breakthrough in ASIAD 2018 was her new record.

Explaining about this, Coach Dao Xuan Hung of the track and field team (Bac Giang provincial Center of Track and Field Training and Competition) said when competing with much stronger rivals, Oanh has shown greater effort and breakthrough comparing to the less competitive arena.

From Indonesia, Oanh shared her happiness with the result and committed trying her best in the next category of women’s 1,500 meters to be held on August 30.
