Vietnam will do its best to advance in World Cup qualifiers, says defender Van Hau

Vietnam will exert greater efforts to clinch victories and book a ticket in the third round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, Vietnamese defender Doan Van Hau told FIFA.com.

21-year-old Hau recently returned home from a one-year spell with Dutch team SC Heerenveen. He is expected to join Park Hang-seo’s squad in the near future to prepare for Vietnam’s remaining three matches in the second qualifying round against Malaysia, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.

Defender Doan Van Hau has contributed significantly to Vietnam's recent successes in the international arena.

After three wins and two draws, the Golden Stars are currently leading Group G, two points clear of second-placed Malaysia.

“Of course we are in the driving seat in this group and have some sort of advantage. However, nothing can be taken for granted and in football anything can happen,” Hau said.

An away victory against Malaysia this October 13 will help Vietnam to further strengthen their grip at the top, thus further enhancing their hopes of advancing to the next round of the World Cup qualification. Van Hau and teammates will then return home to host Indonesia on November 12 before leaving for their last round-two match against the United Arab Emirates five days later.

“These three matches are important for us. We have to do our utmost to earn maximum points and to secure a place in the next round. I believe we can make it,” the Vietnamese defender told FIFA.com.

“I will do my best to help my team and I believe that we can pull off further surprises. Do what you can and believe in yourself. Nothing is impossible,” he affirmed.

In its article published on August 7, FIFA.com said Van Hau is being hailed as one of Asia’s most promising stars thanks to exceptional contributions to Vietnam’s recent successes in the international arena.

“Hau received his national team call-up when Korea Republic coach Park Hang-seo was appointed Vietnam in 2017. He made rapid progress securing a regular place with the senior side and notably, he has played a key role at the back as Vietnam remained undefeated in Asia’s ongoing second qualifying round for Qatar 2022,” the article read.
