Vietnamese fighter's WBO match postponed due to Covid-19

The World Boxing Organization has decided to postpone the bout between Nguyen Thi Thu Nhi and her Japanese opponent to April on Covid-19 fears.

Vietnamese was preparing to hold its first international boxing tournament featuring eight fights, including between its first woman Asia Pacific boxing champion, Nhi, and Etsuko Tada in Quang Ngai Province on February 27.

Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Thu Nhi (L) punches Thailand's Kanyarat Yoohanngoh in the WBO Asia Pacific Minimumweight title in Cambodia, February 29, 2020.

But the Japan Boxing Commission (JBC) did not grant permission for its boxers to fight abroad amid the pandemic.

The JBC and HCMC-based boxing gym Cocky Buffalo, one of the Vietnamese organizers, agreed to postpone the event.

The WBO announcement did not mention the exact date.

Nhi defeated Kanyarat Yoohanngoh of Thailand in 10 rounds to take the WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight crown in Cambodia early last year.

Vietnam has great hopes the 24-year-old could become the first to bring home the world title from the bout with Tada.

Tada won the vacant WBO 105-pound belt last December in Japan.

Bac Giang: National treasure in Tho Ha communal house
(BGO) – Cau River in Tho Ha village, Van Ha commune (Viet Yen district, Bac Giang province) still keeps the ancient serenity of a pure Vietnamese village. In particular, we must mention the Tho Ha communal house, where its door painting in fresco is a masterpiece of wood carving with technical and artistic values, representing the quintessential art of the Le Trung Hung Dynasty (the 17th-18th centuries).
